Killing Architects is a studio for architecture and digital media, based in the Netherlands. We use our architecture and urban planning skills to investigate human rights and social justice issues and then use our design skills to develop effective ways of telling those stories. The studio was founded by Alison Killing in 2011.

Alison Killing is an architect and investigative journalist. In 2021 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting, together with Megha Rajagopalan and Christo Buschek for an investigation that uncovered a secret network of detention camps in Xinjiang, China.

Investigations

We use architecture and urban planning skills to investigate human rights and social justice issues, from surveillance in cities to migration to prison networks.

Storytelling

We use design to develop effective ways to communicate about the issues that we work on, from interactive exhibitions about death, to data visualisations on irregular migration.

Training

We organise workshops and lectures to train others in investigation and design skills and develop written guides for activists and journalists.
